Summer internship in structural steel engineering – parametric templates in IDEA StatiCa
We are looking for a student with an interest in steel structures, engineering calculations, and digital tools.
In this summer internship, you will work with selected steel connection details from the Norwegian Steel Association and develop them into parametric templates in IDEA StatiCa.
Introduction
The Detail Handbook Series (Detaljhåndbokserien) published by the Norwegian Steel Association is widely used by consulting engineers as a practical aid for the design of steel connections, often alongside the Eurocodes.
At the same time, there is a growing need for more efficient and standardized digital workflo
IDEA StatiCa has become a very popular software for Connection Design in the past few years, and many organizations in the Nordics – from the large consultant firms to smaller steel contractors - now rely on IDEA StatiCa for connection design because of its advanced capabilities combined with ease of use.
Parametric templates
A key part of this development is the use of parametric templates.
These are predefined models where important variables are controlled through selected parameters, making it possible to standardize typical solutions, reduce manual work, and achieve more consistent calculations.
In this role, you will help implement selected handbook details as parametric templates in IDEA StatiCa to the benefit for IDEA StatiCa users and steel detailers across the Nordics.
It will also be a great way to gain experience using IDEA StatiCa in advanced ways.
About the role
Your task is to review selected steel connection details in the Detail Handbooks and translate them into parametric templates in IDEA StatiCa.
This involves understanding the design basis behind the details and identifying how they can be structured and generalized in software.
The role combines structural engineering, calculation, and digital modelling, and gives insight into how handbook-based design can be applied in modern engineering tools.
You will be supported by our IDEA StatiCa team and you do not need prior experience with IDEA StatiCa.
The working language for this role will be Norwegian.
The work Location is Lysaker, near Oslo.
About you
We are looking for a student in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field. An interest in steel structures, engineering calculations, and digital tools is important. Familiarity with Eurocodes or steel connections is an advantage.
You should be comfortable working in a structured and independent way, and be motivated to learn.
You do not need to have prior experience with IDEA StatiCa.
How to apply
