Submit your Tekla Structures project

Steps for entering the Tekla BIM Awards
(Norway and Denmark + International)

  1. Prepare the model

  2. Prepare additional material

  3. Fill in the form

1. Prepare the model

In order for your model to be assessed properly, the jury needs your model to be complete. The richer your model, the more insight they can gain into the project. Tekla drawings, reference models and other documents such as PDFs all help with this, but the most important issue is to provide the full model, including any files the project model fetches from your local environments, firm and project folders.

The easiest way to make sure this is the case, is to use Tekla Model Sharing and follow these steps:

  1. Open your Tekla Structures model.

  2. Inside the File menu, go to Sharing > Start Sharing.

  3. Press Start Sharing. Once you start sharing a model, key files from your environment and firm folder are added to the model folder.

  4. Provide the model to Trimble by inviting Trimble to the shared model. To do this, go to File > Sharing > Users. Under Invite Users, add erik.odegaard@buildingpoint-scandinavia.com and press Save.

We strongly recommend you follow these steps. If you do not have access to a Tekla Model Sharing license (note: there’s a free trial available), then you will have to copy the following files manually, into the submitted model folder:

  • Profile database (profdb.BIN)

  • Material database (matdb.BIN)

  • Bolt database (screwdb.DB)

  • Bolt assembly database (assdb.DB)

  • Rebar database (rebar_database.INP)

  • Parametric profiles (profitab.INP)

  • Drawing Templates (*.tpl)

Note that a lot of these files will be located in folders indicated by the XS_FIRM and XS_PROJECT locations (you can check these in the Tekla advanced options dialogs).

Note: A *.db1 does not constitute a model. The whole model folder is required, including Tekla drawings (*.dg).

 2. Prepare additional material

Remember that good images and videos help to communicate about your project and can have a strong impact on your success in the competition. Share the material folder inside your model folder using Tekla Model Sharing. If you can't use Tekla Model Sharing for sharing the project material (see step 1), there is a field in the form (see step 3) to add a link to any cloud or file sharing service (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive).

Mandatory:

  • High resolution screenshots of the model (Tip: use Tekla Structures built-in screenshot tool to capture a few different high quality full model and model detail images from the project (.PNG file format preferred))

Optional:

  • All IFC and additional reference models relevant for the project entry

  • Video clips from the project: (Fly throughs of the model, visualization clips, or any other content relevant for the project to be successful in the competition)

  • High resolution photos or architect visualizations of the project (in any image format, min. 1000 pixels in width/height or more preferred).

3. Fill in the form

The BIM story of your project is the most important part of the submission. You can save the form and come back to it at any time.

The entry form asks for:

  • A project description

  • The challenges and the success factors

  • The benefits of using BIM and Tekla software

  • The project in numbers
