Why VDC?

The VDC binds the 3Ps of Projects, People and Processes of digitalization with technology and performance measurement at its vortex. It provides the project team with explicit guidelines to work together towards better insight and understanding of the project, which helps the project stakeholders to reach important decision in earlier phases of the project. Thus, reducing the potential conflicts and time and cost thieves that might surface in the later phases of the project. 

Performance measurement is central to VDC that unites the multidisciplinary project teams together with technology, techniques, tools, social practices to achieve high performance objectives.

 

What is VDC?

VDC facilitates the use of technology in three domains of construction projects

  1. Project meetings,

  2. Project design and

  3. Project production management through its essential elements.

The VDC essential elements include Integrated Concurrent Engineering (ICE) for project meetings, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Lean Project Delivery System (LPDS) for project design and construction, and performance measurement.

However, to focus the use of VDC essential elements towards objectives VDC framework provides explicit guidelines to define the project and client objectives (see Figure).

The VDC frameworks follows the performance metrics methodology for performance measurement at different project hierarchical levels such as client metrics, project metrices, design and construction metrics. Therefore, the type of performance that is measured within the VDC framework is strictly target based performance to reach the project objectives.
