The beginning of a new year is the ideal time to focus on professional development and skill-building in Tekla Structures, IDEA StatiCa or other tools you rely on! Whether you’re a new user or have been using the software for years, training is essential to getting the most out of your tools.
We spoke with Erik Ødegaard, our Technical Manager, about the training offered by BuildingPoint Scandinavia in 2025.
Why invest in training?

Admitting that he is slightly biased, Erik shares his view on the value of live training:
“While we all use YouTube or E-learning, the benefits from live training are obvious: You get to discuss your challenges with the instructor, you can ask follow-up questions immediately. And afterwards it's a good chance that the instructor is the same person that you will meet if you contact our support!"
The benefits of training go beyond just learning the software. It’s about improving efficiency, reducing errors, and staying competitive in a field that’s constantly evolving.
Erik sums it up: “Think of training as an investment in your career. The time you spend learning now will pay off in smoother workflows and better project outcomes later.”
New users: Get efficient faster and with less beginner-mistakes!
Engineers are used to challenges and are generally good at learning new things and figuring out how stuff works. However, Erik Ødegaard, who is also responsible for the Technical Support team, points out that they often see negative effects on project efficiency and quality when new users have gaps in the basics:
"Introductory training isn’t just helpful—it’s critical. Without it, new users are bound to encounter unnecessary roadblocks. A strong foundation can save time, reduce errors, and lead to better results.
“We have also adapted our traditional classroom training courses to fit the online format,” Erik says, ensuring us that the time and cost for the training is worth it.

Advanced training for experienced Tekla users
Beginner training lays the foundation, but even experienced users can benefit from advanced courses designed to refine workflows and tackle specific challenges. Erik Ødegaard explains:
“Even if you’ve been using these tools for a while, there’s always room to optimize. Advanced training can help you discover features or techniques you didn’t even know existed.”
For Tekla Structures we offer several advanced courses.

The following two courses are recommended for most (or even all) users who have mastered the basics of Tekla, gained some experience in projects and feel ready for the next level:
Organizer: Learn how to use Tekla Organizer for easy access to model data, including IFC information, resulting in efficient model management at any project stage.
Custom Components: Develop parametric components to automate and standardize detailing, saving time and ensuring accuracy.
Additionally, all superusers and users with Tekla admin responsibilities should attend these three courses:
Templates: Create custom templates to streamline drawing production and improve project documentation consistency.
System: Learn to manage Tekla configurations, licensing, and settings for multi-user environments.
Open API: Gain hands-on experience with C# programming to build plugins and extensions for Tekla Structures.
Complimentary E-learning!
Although nothing beats live training, BuildingPoint Scandinavia also offers a few complimentary E-learning options, Getting Started with IDEA StatiCa in 1 hour and Trimble Connect Advanced Workflows Extensions.

Company specific tailored training!
“In some cases, companies have needs that are not covered in the standard training offering. That’s not a problem, we often arrange tailored training in special topics,” Erik says and explains that although it may require more preparation for the instructor, he is very eager to discuss this with the customers to find a solution.
