Christmas letter and reflections on 2023 and 2024 from BuildingPoint Scandinavia

VIDEO: A short introduction to our Christmas letter for 2023

BuildingPoint Scandinavia is a supplier to industries that contribute significantly to emissions and energy consumption, unfortunately. Looking at this from an opportunity perspective: this puts us in a position to make a positive impact far beyond what we can achieve as individuals!

In this end-of-year letter, as we look back on 2023 and forward to 2024, we ask ourselves how we performed and how to act in accordance with that responsibility in the year to come.

2023 in retrospect

Our team’s sustainability strategy states that we shall “facilitate innovation and technological development in the construction Industry to create a basis for sustainable construction and life cycle management. We shall create reliable and connected knowledge that allows people to share and collaborate with confidence and make smarter choices for a better future.”

This statement incorporates both the acknowledgement of our responsibility, but also specific areas where we can help the industry.

Looking at examples of how we positively contributed in 2023 we start with our Rebar Labels app. This is an extension to Trimble Connect and an example of products that support process changes that contribute to efficiency and quality improvements.

If our team, through contributions like this, enables a huge infrastructure project to complete even one day earlier, or helps extend the lifetime of a concrete structure, it will have had a direct impact on exactly those parameters that are monitored by the IPCC and other agencies reporting on sustainability.

This year we have also reported on our work with contractors and operators in the mining industry on how robotics impact safety and sustainability; we have invested in development of solutions that improve efficiency and thus drive down the cost of using timber in construction; and we have created extensions to Tekla Structures that help steel designers and fabricators optimize their use of materials and reduce scrap.

These, and many other examples demonstrate how we act in accordance with our strategy. Granted, none of these things will make headlines (except in our own blog), but we are nevertheless proud, motivated, and thankful for the positive feedback from our customers!

Looking forward to 2024

In the past few years, we have seen a shift from BIM being a design and engineering centric process. The focus has evolved to include production and fabrication, sales, planning, and the whole chain of stakeholders including each worker out on the construction site.

Many owners and operators of buildings or infrastructure now also expect a digital model for life cycle management.

We will help deliver this expectation in accordance with our Sustainability statement and strategy.

As we go into a year that may show a decline in activity in the construction industry, we believe that the huge interest in our digital work-flow services will continue. Our very popular free Trimble Connect training is still available on demand and we will continue with similar activities, tips and tricks sessions, and more.

We will also continue to build on addressing the need for increased efficiency by developing new products and extensions for fabrication and construction site productivity.

There is also an increasing adoption of augmented reality solutions, scanning and other clever ways to take advantage of combined real world and digital models in the office and in the field, and our team is ready to support!

We also saw some fantastic results in the offshore segment in the past couple of years. We will put even more effort into this in 2024, and help the industry effectively transition toward more sustainable energy markets in the future.

And as a company rooted in structural analysis, connection design (and even more advanced FEA and CFD simulation which we deliver through our parent company, EDRMedeso), it will come as no surprise that we will continue our growth in this area as well!

IDEA StatiCa has become wildly popular and the number of enthusiastic users in the Nordics is steadily and rapidly increasing. We also see CSi Bridge becoming the go-to solution for many types of bridges in our region.

With these solutions and services, we will do our best to enable our customers’ success in the year that comes. We will continue to look to our Sustainability statement to ensure we are doing our bit to take us in the right direction.

Thank you!

Finally, we would like to thank all our customers, partners, vendors, industry colleagues and employees for everything we achieved together in 2023! We look forward to continued collaboration towards common success in 2024!

We wish everyone a great holiday and a happy new year!
