Thank you for a successful evening event on practical workflows in frame analysis and connection design
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Lysaker for the Norwegian Steel Association evening event, “Practical Workflows in Frame Analysis and Connection Design.”
We hope you enjoyed the presentations and the opportunity to meet industry colleagues during the breaks.
We would also like to thank the Norwegian Steel Association (Norsk Stålforbund) for its collaboration in arranging the event, and extend a special thank you to the members of the organization who contributed to the technical program as speakers.
About the event

The event brought together structural engineers and steel professionals for an evening focused on practical engineering workflows that connect global structural analysis with local connection design.
Through presentations and project-based examples, attendees were introduced to how FEM-Design, Tekla Structures, and IDEA StatiCa can be used together in practice — from 3D frame modelling and analysis, through detailing, to verification and dimensioning of steel connections.

The program also covered topics related to everyday engineering work, including modelling strategies, interpretation of analysis results, and common challenges and pitfalls when using FEM in structural design.
The combination of software workflows, project examples, and practical experience demonstrated the value of connected workflows between analysis, detailing, and connection design.

The engagement from participants, including the questions and discussions throughout the evening, clearly showed that these topics are highly relevant for the members of the Norwegian Steel Association.
Global analysis and connection design
An important aspect of the evening was the connection between global analysis and IDEA StatiCA. Learn more about some of the most popular BIM links here:

FEM-Design
This third-party integration is developed and maintained by StruSoft.
For more about the FEM-Design and IDEA StatiCa connection, watch this webinar on YouTube.
You can also read more on the IDEA StatiCa website, or reach out to our support team.
ETABS
The integration of IDEA StatiCa and ETABS, the analysis software for buildings from CSI, is one of the most used BIM links to IDEA StatiCa.
Recent updates of the software included a couple of enhancements, which can make your life even easier. Learn more about the ETABS to IDEA StatiCa BIM link here
SAP2000
Select steel connections and members in SAP2000 and export them to IDEA StatiCa for structural designing and code-checking.
All beams, cross-sections, and internal forces are also completely synchronized if the SAP2000 model changes.
Learn more about using SAP2000 with IDEA StatiCa here.
Thank you
A sincere thank you to Norsk Stålforbund for the collaboration and for helping make the event possible.
We would also like to thank the speakers: Richard Hornnæs Hovde from Norconsult AS, Erik Grimso from Aas-Jakobsen (part of Norconsult AS), and Ilkka Savola from SD Nordics for sharing their experience and technical insight.
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended!
