Smarter workflows with Trimble Connect extensions
VIDEO: Check out Marcin’s presentation of a nifty little extension to Trimble Connect: Transport Control. It demonstrates some of the benefits of building workflows into Trimble Connect and work directly on the 3D models instead of using spreadsheets.
Trimble Connect is a powerful platform for sharing, viewing, and managing construction models. But sometimes projects require a little extra functionality tailored to specific needs. That’s where extensions come in.
Why extensions are great
Every construction project comes with its own set of challenges. While Trimble Connect covers a broad range of workflows, there are situations where teams benefit from specialized tools. Extensions allow you to address those needs directly within Trimble Connect—whether it’s for planning, checking, or reporting!
Our team develops extensions based on customer requests and industry-wide requirements. This ensures the solutions remain practical, targeted, and closely tied to real project tasks.
A practical example: Trimble Connect Transport Control extension

One extension we recently developed addresses transport planning: When moving large elements such as steel assemblies, concrete structures, or industrial equipment, it’s essential to confirm that each item fits the chosen transport. The Transport Control extension in Trimble Connect automates this check.
By comparing element dimensions and weight against predefined transport categories, the extension groups items accordingly.
This makes it easy to spot oversized elements, prepare structured transport reports, and share results directly with project partners. While it doesn’t calculate full truckloads, it provides a quick, reliable overview of individual elements and their transport requirements.
Built around specific project needs
What makes extensions valuable is their flexibility. They can adapt to your own categories, properties, and reporting methods. Instead of working outside the model with spreadsheets or manual checks, you can run the process directly in Trimble Connect—where your project team already collaborates.
This type of customization is what turns Trimble Connect into more than just a model viewer. It becomes a platform that grows with your project needs.
